I had a '69 Mustang once. The brown color covers the entire body (inside and out). It is epoxy primer which is waterproof, not specifically corrosion protection, although it does serve as such. It is very durable and does not shrink or peel as laquer primer does. The only problem is the difficulty in sanding becauseit's pretty hard stuff. I was going to use it, but it was hard to find 15 years ago. It is probably more difficult to find now because of EPA regulations. You are correct in that the body color also appears on the underbody. I hope this information helps in some way.

Under the car is painted roughly the same color as the exterior, a light green color. The interior looks like a dark brown, probably a anti-rust coating.

I'm working on my 69 Mustang too and found the undercoating to be an aqua color. Curious what color your's has.
